It's always good to come back to this site... next best thing to being there in Almonte. Getting back to one's roots is good medicine for the soul. It's been 40 years since our family moved from Almonte, but it still gives me goosebumps every time I come into town. And I always make a point to drive by Church St. School, and our old home up on Hope St.Submitted by Frank Blakeley <fblakeley@canada.com>
If you remember me from "way back when" in the late 50's and early 60's, drop me a line! It'd be great to hear from old friends and aquaintances.

I read in one of your local papers that Almonte will get a Junior B Hockey Team next year.I was remembering the Almonte Bombers from the 1950/1951 season. They played against Smith Falls,Perth,Carleton Place,Renfrew and Arnprior.I believe that most of the players were from Ottawa. Some of the last names that I remember were,Hughes,Dinardo,Schroader and Lombardo.Submitted by Tom Miller <tommiller@shaw.ca>
Does anyone have any memories of this team, were there any Almonte players? What was the logo and team colours?Do you remember any of the other players? The team played there home games at the old rink.

Hi,Submitted by Gaétan Howe <ghowelogistil@videotron.ca>
I'm trying to locate descendants of my great grand-father and great grand-mother. Their name are "Henry Hughes Howe" and "Mary Victoria Hugues". I have reasons to believe that they resided in Almonte in the 1870-1880 period. Their children were Mabel, Maud, Lilly, Harry and George-Ersnest my grand-father. They were Methodists.
I am trying to locate Gary Smith who hailed from Almonte. he went to Queen's University, where he was a boxer, then taught for 20 years (late 50's to the 70's) at Royal York Collegiate in Toronto. He was then at OISE. I believe he now lives in Southern France. He was an inspiration to all he taught. One of his students was my brother Brian Young who went on to get his Phd in history and has taught at McGill for 35 years. He lives for part of the year in Nice, France and would like to reconnect with Gary. If anyone knows how to contact him, please e-mail me. Thanks.Submitted by M, Young <murray.young341@gmail.com>
